Wheelchair Accessible Modifications
As we grow older, getting around our house becomes more difficult, and many people experience a temporary disability at least once in their lives. We at S.F. Pauli Builders Inc. understand this and know how to make your home comfortable for you and your loved ones again.
Making Homes Accessible in Peoria, IL
Older, traditional homes were not built for handicap accessibility. There are ways to modify your home, though, so that it is wheelchair or handicap accessible. S.F. Pauli Builders Inc. has been remodeling homes in the Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties for over 35 years. We have worked with homeowners, the City of Peoria, and other government agencies to construct handicap accessible homes.

Pauli Builders Inc. will work with you to help you live easier.
What to Consider
It may be impossible to add handicap accessibility to some older homes, but newer homes are commonly built with an “open concept.” Making a home handicap accessible involves creating direct access to the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and other rooms of the home. If you need wheelchair accessibility, doors need to be at least 32” wide with a straight in approach. Plenty of turning space would also be needed for doors located in a hallway.
There are many ways navigating around your home can be unmanageable without handicap accessibility. Some examples are:
Doors being too narrow
Bathtubs, showers, and toilets not having convenient grab bars
Sinks that do not allow wheelchair accessibility
As you can see, the bathroom can be hazardous for someone with a walker or wheelchair, but other rooms in the house can have similar issues as well. For example, most walk-in closet doors aren’t wide enough, and counters in the kitchen can be too high. Remodeling counters or widening doors might be required in your home.
The lack of handicap accessibility in homes has become more and more of an issue with the aging population. You can trust S.F. Pauli Builders Inc. to help your house fit the needs of you or your loved ones. You also might be thinking of your future, and that you want to make these changes before they are necessary. We have years of experience working with homeowners and government agencies to create handicap accessible homes all over the Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties.
